Galactosyllactoses are structurally distinct isomers and differ in the glycosidic linkage of the terminal galactose connected to lactose.

3′-Galactosyllactose is a human milk oligosaccharide (HMO). HMOs are complex carbohydrates present in human milk as a naturally occurring prebiotic. Besides their prebiotic effect, HMOs are also effective antimicronials and antivirals, and regulators of inflammatory immune cell-response cascades.¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵

Applications

HMOs serve as effective prebiotics, antimicrobials and antivirals, and regulators of inflammatory immune cell-response cascades. These benefits makes HMOs an attractive target of study for preventing/treating diseases in children and adults.⁵ The inclusion of 6 ¹³C labels allows differentiation of the natural abundant isotope in a MS based workflow.
